Computers are vulnerable to disasters. Hard drives fail and data corruption really does happen. These are worst case scenarios, but are you prepared for the outcome? When computer systems fail, they take down important information such as credit card transactions, employee data, sales information, email messages and address book, spreadsheets and documents - the list is endless. This is unthinkable, but possible.
Disaster should not be wished away but rather anticipated and
planned for. Backing up data is, perhaps, the only guaranteed
preventive measure against computer failure.
CC Productions is intensely concerned about protecting our clients'
business data. As a result, every system purchased from us has
at least one backup method configured. However, pos operators
should be interested to know if backup has failed, as well as
consider what further options are available beyond what we provide.

It is tempting to use those expensive point-of-sale computer systems forever . However, this is never feasible, nor sensible. As computers age, a point is reached when the Law of Diminishing Returns sets in, and you begin to lose money instead of saving it.
Let's face it: computers may be built to last forever. But technology advances so rapidly a perfectly running machine becomes obsolete. Ever machine has a life expectancy. Like humans, they age with time, so there comes a point when it becomes either obvious, necessary or sensible to upgrade or replace the computer.
For POS systems, this fact is even more relevant because computers drive the engine of profitability. Every down minute with pos computers has productivity implications. Although upgrading or replacing the system or components cost money and takes time, at times it's just the reasonable alternative.
When should you consider an upgrade or replacement of your computer system? Read Article

QUICK TIP: HOW TO CHECK NIGHTLY BACKUP
Nightly backup is done to the L:\ network drive, usually the
backoffice computer or Terminal1. Go to the L:\ drive from My
Computer on the Posdriver or the C:\ drive on the Backoffice,
and open the folder Bigback. Inside, look for a file called
Back1.zip. Right-click click on Back1.zip and select Properties.
Check the Modified date, and make sure it is dated the previous
day. This indicates backup is current.
