Are you nervous about adding menu items and modifiers to your Positouch database? Using a “Posi Cut & Paste” process, anyone can quickly add new items, says Vince Bogan, CCP's Project Manager.



Not only can you as a manager add new items to the Positouch database, you can also expand your selection of modifiers, putting an end to rampant use of the more difficult memo key.

Let's begin with theory.

First, think about your new item or modifier and ask yourself a few questions. Is it an appetizer, an entrée or a modifier? Where will it print? Does it follow an existing modifier scheme (for instance, temps for meat, choice of potato?). After these questions are answered, then find an existing item that sort of “acts the same way.” Next, you will copy that existing item onto an order screen. Finally, you will create your new item to replace the copied item. Voila! Simple! Here's how you do it:

  • Go to: MENU SCREENS>EDIT AN ORDERSCREEN>
  • Click on the order screen where your new item is to be placed.
  • Right Click on the blank space where you r new item will go.
  • From the menu buttons on the right side of the screen select Copy.
  • On the left is the From Screen: column. Select the Order Screen where your existing item lives.
  • On the right is the Cell: column. Select the item you want to copy and click OK , the item  will appear in the space you selected.
  • Now click on that item and it will take you to what we call the Button Screen  , since you selected a like item all the confusing things like Cell Type, Prep Category, etc… are already done for you. So, to replace the old item click the Lookup button on the top-center of the screen.
  • Again, since you selected a like item you are in the same section of the database as all the other items of that type. When we create databases we keep items like Vodkas or Desserts in the same area numerically.  Click Add Record
  • In the white box is the number for the next blank space in your database. Click OK.
  • You are now at a blank inventory item. In the description box type the name of you new item. Use the mouse or Tab key to get to and enter the price into Price 1 , Price 2, and Price 3 .
  • Change the Major and Minor Categories as needed. Then in the top-right corner find and click the Select button.
  • At this point you could click the Save button on the bottom of the screen, but you may need to tweak the modifiers. To do this, you click on the line of modifiers that need to be changed. From the menu to the right of the modifier box select Edit, then using the check boxes, check or uncheck as needed. Click OK to come back the button screen. Feel free to play around a bit here. You can do all sorts of  creative things with modifiers!
  • Meanwhile back at the Button Screen , click Save and now your new item is on the Order Screen! You create new modifiers the same way, just remember to attach them to the items that need them.
  • Click Exit to leave the Order Screen , and Exit again to leave Edit and Order screen.
  • Click on MENU SCREENS>UPDATE PRICES> (This is important!)
  • Do an IMMEDIATE SYSTEM CHANGE and your new items are ready for used by your staff!
